Monkey park in Kyoto is a fun treat among the many that the city offers. The short 20 minute hike up the Iwatayama mountain will make the less athletic folks work up sweat. With a little hard work comes rewards. An amazing view of Kyoto and an open area where the wild monkeys rule and frolic. You may spot monkeys up in the tree as you venture up the hill but when you reach the top you’ll have close encounter with the myriad of monkeys.
The park provides an enclosed hut where you will able to purchase food and feed the monkeys from the inside. As odd as it seems feeding monkeys from the inside of a hut, you don’t want feed them in an open area where things can get out of hand quickly. And whatever you do, don’t look the monkeys in the eyes.
The park is located in the Arashiyama district in the western outskirts of Kyoto. In the area you should also check out the Bamboo Groves and the Togetsukyo Bridge.
Didn’t know monkeys were in Japan
